A Week in Feminine Dress ~ Days 1 and 2

Last month both Claire and Clare did a "Week in Feminine Dress", where they wore beautfiul feminine clothing and posted photos of their outfits on their blogs. I thought that it look like a neat thing to do, but I didn't have the time for it then (I was already doing one daily post), so I put it off for later. Last night I decided on the spur of the moment to do it now. So, yesterday was the first day, and I shall go until next Tuesday. For yesterday's outfit...

Last night was my sister Megan's graduation, and I wore a navy polka dot blouse from Blair that I bought with money that I got for my birthday.

I wore this with my white linen/rayon skirt from Christopher and Banks, a store with many beautiful, fashionable and modest selections!

To complete the outfit, I wore a silver heart necklace, diamond earings. I got my hair cut to above my shoulders that morning, so I blow-dried it to give it a little 'foof' and parted it on the side.

Today I am more casual in what my family terms a 'clothes bin' outfit; we can't remember where it came from originally, so when asked where we found it, we truthfully reply 'Our summer/winter clothes bin'.

A rose colored cotton dress with princess seams, it is a bit plain on its own, so I like to wear it with my tan shirt. The neckline comes far to low on my shoulders to be worn alone, but it looks very nice with this dress!

For a necklace, I am wearing my Miraculous medal heart that "My Fairy Godmother" gave my for my confirmation anniversary this year.

My hair, which is now too short for a barrette, is pulled back with bobby pins, an idea I found sitting in front of me at Mass last night. Divine inspiration? ;)

That's the start of my Week in Feminine Dress. A little late, but I plan on having fun with it!

Why You Should Read the Bulletin...

The Latest from "The Lion's Roar"

Every once in a while I hear the expression "Who reads the bulletin anyway?" when we talk about people who miss important parish events. We should realize that our parish bulletin is the primary way we inform everyone about what's happening in the parish. And it is not just a bunch of information. We can also get some laughs out of it. The following are samples of bulletin bloopers.

"The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's "Hamlet" in the church basement Friday at 7pm. The congregation is invited to attened this tragedy."

"Wieght watchers will meet at 7pm at St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Please use double door at side entrance."

"Don't let worry kill you - let the Church help."

"Ladoes, don't forget the rummage sale! It is a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don't forget your husband."

"The peacemaking committee meeting scheduled for next week has been canceled due to a conflict."

"The pastor will preach his final sermon next week, after which the choir will sing 'Break Forth into Joy'"

"Low Self-esteem Support Group will be meeting next Wednesday at 6pm. Please use the back door."

The moral of the story. Please do take home a bulletin when you leave the church. You never know what you might be missing.

This one caused a lot of laughs after Mass, which we all needed. After communion, we recieved the news from Father, that the Bishop is making him the pastor... of a different parish. Two and a half hours away. We are all very sad, because during the one year that we've had Father Ariel as our parochial administrator, we have become very attatched to him. He is such a wonderful, vibrant, friendly, holy and reverant priest, and has done so much to make our parish blossom. It was quite a blow to hear that he will be leaving in one short month. Please pray that his replacemnt will be just as good of a priest, and that we may accept God's will in this. Thank you.

Meeting Regina Doman

at the Illinois Catholic Homeschooling Conferance, was a wonderful and exciting experience! I was thrilled to meet one of my favorite authors ever, as were the rest of the fans in my homeschooling group. So, after her talk, we did a little cheer for her.

The rest of the conference was great, but nothing could compare to meeting Regina Doman!

Why live in the light, when the night seems so irresistible?

Love comes softly. That is how I describe my reaction after reading The Midnight Dancers, the lastest in the Fairy Tale Novel series by Regina Doman. After reading it through one - very quickly, as I usually read - I admit I was not as impressed and enthralled as I had been after reading Regina's other books The Shadow of the Bear, Black as Night and Waking Rose. I liked it very much, I just was not sure how much. A few hours later, I picked it up and started it again - somthing I only do with the Fairy Tale Novels. By the time I finished it again, I was in love.

Why did love come softly this time? I think prehaps because it is a very different kind of book from its predecessors. The most obvious difference, is that it is not about Bear, Blanche, Fish and Rose, the heros of the former books. This story focuses on Paul Fester, a student from Waking Rose, and a 'new girl', Rachel Durham.

Second difference, this novel centers around a philisophical idea -as I believe it was refered to - something the former books didn't do. Hence, this is not a book you can read through quickly (like I did). If you do, chances are you won't take in and grasp that idea, and if you don't, chances are you won't enjoy the book as much. Reading the quote by Dietrich von Hildebrand - it can be found in the "A Little Bit About This Book" at the end - helps to understand what the 'philisophical idea' is. I refrain from quoting it here. If you wish to know what it is, buy the book on June 1st and read it.

Rachel Durham hereself is a different type of girl from Blanche and Rose. I won't get into details, but I shall say that, in most respects, the Brier girls and Rachel are like... day and night. ;-)

So was it a good book? Absolutly! Regina once again captures your interest from the begining, building up to an intensely wonderful climax. Again, she leaves you with a satisfying, beautiful, and romantic ending.

Sometimes love comes softly, but it does come.
